Our Adolescent community is built around academic growth, real responsibility, and the search for identity and purpose. Students are trusted with meaningful work that connects their learning to the real world. This balance of challenge and support helps them grow into confident, capable young adults.
A CURRICULUM FOR THE WHOLE PERSON
The adolescent curriculum is designed to develop the whole person across four connected domains:
SOCIAL
Learning to live and work with others, resolve conflict, and understand the value of contribution and interdependence.
MORAL
Grappling with ethical questions, taking responsibility, and developing a conscience shaped by community values.
COGNITIVE
Strong academic work in language, mathematics, sciences, the humanities, and the arts, connected through real-world application.
EMOTIONAL
Building self-confidence, a sense of dignity, and the resilience to meet challenges with creativity and hope.
At MSH, this work happens in a close-knit community led by credentialed adolescent guides. Our Adolescent community launched in 2021 thanks to the generosity of our families and the broader community.
INSIDE THE ADOLESCENT EXPERIENCE
Students engage in structured Socratic seminars where ideas are explored through discussion, questioning, and evidence-based reasoning, developing the ability to think critically, listen carefully, and communicate with clarity and respect. Extended research and inquiry projects require them to investigate complex topics, synthesize information from multiple sources, and present their findings with depth and organization. Through regular presentations and exhibitions to peers and faculty, students build confidence and articulation, and applied learning and field experiences connect their academic study to real-world contexts.
Students design, launch, and manage small-scale businesses from concept to execution, including budgeting, production, pricing, and marketing. They take on authentic responsibilities such as product development, financial tracking, team roles, and presentation of their work, connecting classroom learning in math, language, and research to real entrepreneurial projects. This meaningful work builds confidence, initiative, and the ability to take ownership of an idea from start to finish.
MSH adolescents were first in Huntsville's Green Team Ambassador Program and have earned top recognition from the City of Huntsville for sustainability and community impact, placing first in the 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 school years. Students run recycling and compost operations across campus, coordinate pickup with families and community volunteers, and contribute to campus landscaping, garden planning, and erosion-control projects. Through this real work, our learners build leadership and the ability to care for and improve the world around them.
