The toddler years are a time of extraordinary growth. In a matter of months, children begin walking, talking, and asserting their independence with remarkable determination and joy.
A SUCCESSFUL START TO SCHOOL
Children are guided through simple, meaningful daily routines that help them experience success early and often. Our students begin to do things for themselves in age-appropriate ways, practicing routines like putting away belongings, choosing activities, cleaning up after work, and caring for their environment.
In our classroom, we see children become more comfortable making choices, following routines, and taking pride in what they can do for themselves.
LANGUAGE, MOVEMENT, AND EARLY GROWTH
Toddlers develop rapidly in language and physical coordination. Through conversation, songs, stories, and hands-on materials, children expand their vocabulary and motor skills and learn to express themselves more clearly.
Families notice their child becoming better able to communicate needs, engage with their surroundings, and participate confidently in daily classroom life.
LEARNING TO BELONG
The toddler classroom is often a child's first experience in a group setting outside the home. Our community is intentionally small, with a maximum of twelve children and two guides, so every child feels secure and known. Here, children learn to share space, observe others, and take part in simple forms of cooperation.
Over time, we see children develop real social confidence and their first friendships.
CARE OF SELF
Toddlers are naturally eager to do things for themselves. Children are given the time, space, and encouragement to try, practice, and repeat everyday tasks until they can do them on their own. This builds confidence and a strong sense of "I can do it."
Children do not need to be toilet-trained before they start. Toilet learning is a natural part of our curriculum, and our guides partner with families to support each child at their own pace, alongside growing skills in dressing, handwashing, and managing personal belongings.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
By the end of the toddler stage, children are more independent and confident. Families often notice the difference in everyday life, with easier transitions, stronger communication, and a growing willingness to try new things.

"Our child has attended the Montessori School of Huntsville, starting with the infant program (Montessori Mornings) when he was one year old. SCHEDULE OPTIONS
Our toddler community attends five days a week, with two daily options:
HALF DAY
8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
FULL DAY
8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Schedule options are subject to availability. Families who need an earlier start can take advantage of Early Morning Care, offered beginning at 7:30 a.m.
A Foundation for What Comes Next
For many families, the Toddler program is the beginning of a long relationship with MSH. Children who start here move smoothly into our Primary program, already comfortable with the rhythms of a Montessori classroom and confident in their own abilities.
