In Elementary, children move from absorbing information to actively trying to understand it. They ask bigger questions, look for patterns, and want to know how the world fits together. Our Elementary community is where curiosity turns into deeper understanding, and children begin to think more critically, independently, and in connection with the world around them.

A CURRICULUM THAT CONNECTS
Montessori elementary education is built on cosmic education, the idea that every subject is part of one larger, connected story. Our Great Lessons are a series of vivid, imaginative stories that introduce the origins of the universe, life, human beings, language, and numbers. These stories spark the big questions that drive a child's research, leading naturally into deeper study across every discipline.
THE ELEMENTARY EXPERIENCE
Students move from foundational skills to deeper understanding. Learning is organized across interconnected Montessori curriculum areas, where each area contributes to a larger, meaningful whole.
Students develop advanced reading comprehension, writing fluency, grammar, and vocabulary through reading, research, discussion, and writing across subjects. Work progresses from foundational literacy into analysis, expression, and structured writing. Our learners build strong comprehension skills and confidence working with increasingly complex texts.
Students move from concrete materials to abstract understanding across operations, fractions, and decimals. Our learners become confident with complex math concepts and develop strong problem-solving and logical reasoning skills.
Geometry is explored as its own area of study, moving from physical materials to abstract reasoning. Students study shape, measurement, spatial relationships, and geometric principles in depth, developing precision, visual reasoning, and the ability to understand and explain mathematical relationships.
Students explore biology, physical science, earth science, geography, and history through research, experiments, storytelling, and project-based learning. Topics are connected through big-picture questions that help children develop curiosity, research skills, and the ability to connect knowledge across disciplines.
Students learn to gather information, take notes, organize ideas, and present their learning clearly in written and oral form. Projects often include research reports, presentations, and collaborative work.
In a mixed-age community, students learn to work with others across different ages and take on leadership roles. Older students mentor younger peers, while younger students learn through observation and collaboration, developing conflict-resolution skills, responsibility, and the ability to work effectively in a group.
A major focus of Elementary is developing organization, time management, sustained attention, and the ability to manage multi-step tasks over time. Students plan and complete their work with increasing independence, becoming more organized and capable of managing long-term academic work with confidence.
LEARNING BY DOING
Elementary children learn best through their hands and their curiosity. Days are built around hands-on Montessori materials, independent and small-group research, and real projects that let children pursue their interests in depth. As they grow, students also venture beyond the classroom on "going out" trips, planning visits into the community that connect their studies to the world around them.
Students in Kindergarten through 9th grade can also join our Free Range art club, which meets once a week after school. Led by three of our guides, it helps students build technical and expressive skills in drawing, painting, and design while exploring a range of artistic styles and media.
ACCREDITED ACADEMIC RIGOR
This imaginative approach is paired with the rigor families expect. Our upper-school Montessori curriculum aligns with and exceeds Common Core standards, and our accreditation by SAIS and Cognia assures that alignment. From 3rd grade onward, benchmarking is used to support learning by giving teachers insight into each student's progress and instructional needs. Children leave our Elementary community as confident, capable learners who know how to think.
SCHEDULE
Our Elementary program runs from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., five days a week. Early Morning Care is available beginning at 7:30 a.m., and aftercare is offered from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.
